ECPAT-USA Urges Senators to Vote for EARN-IT Act of 2020

ECPAT-USA, the nation's leader in combating child exploitation and trafficking, today called for senators to take steps to protect children online and vote yes on the Eliminating Abusive and Rampant Neglect of Interactive Technologies Act of 2020 (EARN-IT Act).

The Senate Judiciary Committee will be voting on the EARN-It Act of 2020 on Thursday, July 2, 2020.  ECPAT-USA urges all of its supporters to call their Senators and urge them to vote for the EARN-IT Act of 2020 in its current form. Any attempts to amend the EARN-IT Act will water down the bill, thereby making it less effective.

"We applaud Senator Lindsey Graham and Senator Richard Blumenthal for recognizing that online platforms can be dangerous areas for vulnerable children and for introducing the EARN-IT Act of 2020 as a way to set best-practice standards," said Lori L. Cohen, Executive Director of ECPAT-USA.

"For too long, online predators have exploited loopholes under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. While we recognize that more must be done to address this crisis, we very much understand that the EARN-IT Act of 2020 is desperately needed so that we can start to identify best practices for protecting youth on these platforms," she said.
