Ruby
Ruby* is a survivor leader and advocate in the Philippines who has been sharing her experience widely in hopes of building a community where there is no violence. She has won awards for sharing her story boldly on various platforms. In 2021, Ruby received the Community Spirit and Public Service category award at the Women of the Future Awards Southeast Asia. In 2022, Ruby became a member of the Leadership Council for the Global Survivor Network, an international group of survivor leaders who desire and pursue safe communities through justice systems that protect the most vulnerable.
Ruby is currently working as a Project Coordinator at a Solar Company which promotes clean and renewable sources of energy. She is also a part-time survivor consultant at IJM’s Center to End Online Sexual Exploitation of Children; as a survivor leader and a consultant, she contributed her insights and expertise to the recently published Scale of Harm study alongside other survivor leaders. She participated in other research projects and initiatives with IJM’s partner organizations such as the Global Fund to End Modern Slavery. In this engagement, Joy shared feedback and recommendations through a detailed research review of projects such as Nowhere to Hide and the Promoting Opportunities within Evidence & Research (POWER).
Ruby believes that “Survivor experiences are different, but somehow, by speaking with someone who has a similar experience, they will be able to gain strength, and be comfortable sharing their stories and this could be a stepping stone for them towards advocating for change.” In her free time, Ruby enjoys singing karaoke, reading, dancing with her daughter, and watching KDramas on Netflix.
