Meet Bishop Donna Lynne Hubbard
This year, as part of our Freedom Awards Benefit, we are proud to honor Bishop Donna Lynne Hubbard for her remarkable work and engagement in the anti-trafficking field. Please take a moment to read her biography below.
Donna Lynne Hubbard is the daughter of the late author and Community Activist Barbara “Nayo” Watkins and Charles “Charlie” Hubbard, graduates of Atlanta’s historic Booker T. Washington High School. Raised by her mother Nayo and Civil Rights Icon Hollis Watkins who took great pride in cultivating Donnas' social awareness and creative spirit, at 16 she married and became a wife and mother. At 18 years old she became a single mother. After a violent sexual assault her life became a series of abandonment, abuse, addiction, exploitation, and violence. She became the property of a pimp who sold her to a gang who trafficked, gang raped, and threatened to exploit her children. Going to prison was her only way out. Waiting to be transferred she met Min. Lynnette Higgins who introduced her to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Knowing what awaited her if she were released, she accepted prison would be her only escape. Prison is where Donna surrendered to a greater destiny and purpose. Donna was paroled in 1993 to Atlanta, Georgia. In 1994 she founded Woman at the Well Transition Center.
